Riot’s Free-to-Play Fighting Game Comes to Console
Riot Games is expanding its console presence with the launch of 2XKO, its highly anticipated 2v2 fighting game, arriving on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on January 20, 2026. The release marks a significant milestone for the developer, known primarily for its PC gaming legacy with titles like League of Legends and Valorant.
The free-to-play fighting game features a tag-team format where players select two champions from the League of Legends universe and swap between them during matches. The simultaneous PC and console launch aims to build a unified player community across all platforms from day one.
Cross-Platform Progression and Accessibility
One of the standout features is cross-play support, allowing players who have been enjoying the game since its early access launch in October to carry over their existing progress from PC accounts to console versions. This seamless progression system eliminates the friction of restarting on new platforms.
The game is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring simplified controls that welcome newcomers to the fighting game genre while maintaining enough depth for competitive play. Riot has also implemented rollback netcode to ensure smooth online matches across all platforms.
Season 1 Launch Coincides with Console Release
2XKO Season 1 begins on the same day as the console launch, bringing a new champion, battle pass, and additional content. The game was developed by Radiant Entertainment, Riot’s fighting-game-focused studio, building on concepts that evolved from the earlier project Rising Thunder.
As Riot continues to diversify beyond its PC gaming roots, 2XKO represents the company’s commitment to entering the competitive fighting game space with a title designed for both casual and esports audiences.
