Spotify is rolling out a new beta feature called “Talk to Spotify” that lets Premium subscribers control the app using natural voice or text commands directly from the Home and Now Playing views. The feature, now available to select users in the US, Ireland, and Sweden, aims to make music discovery, playlist curation, and audio exploration more conversational and hands-free.

What Talk to Spotify Can Do

The feature enables a back-and-forth conversational experience within the app. Users can issue commands like “play some artists I haven’t heard before” and then refine the results by saying “add some Bad Bunny” or “make it more upbeat.” When a track catches your ear, you can follow up with requests to “save this song,” “add this to my queue,” or “follow this artist” — all without touching the screen.

According to Spotify, the feature is designed to let users have a natural dialogue with the app about what’s playing, helping them explore their listening history and discover new music through spoken or typed interactions.

Music Discovery and Artist Insights

From the Now Playing view, Talk to Spotify doubles as a music knowledge tool. Listeners can ask questions like “what is the inspiration behind Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism?”, “when was this album released?”, or “what genre is this?” The AI-powered assistant answers these queries and can steer users toward related artists, albums, or stories — effectively acting as a built-in music encyclopedia.

The feature also taps into personal listening history. Users can ask “when did I first listen to this song?” or “what genres have I been into recently?” to get personalized insights about their own music taste over time.

Podcasts and Audiobooks Support

Talk to Spotify isn’t limited to music. The feature also works with podcasts and audiobooks, allowing users to learn more about a podcast guest, an author, or the context behind spoken-word content. This extends Spotify’s strategy of becoming a comprehensive audio platform rather than just a music streaming service.

Availability and Rollout

The feature is currently rolling out in beta to Spotify Premium users aged 18 and older in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden. It supports both iOS and Android devices and is available in English. Users can activate it by pressing the microphone button in the search field to speak, or by typing commands directly.

As Spotify continues to integrate AI deeper into its platform — following earlier features like AI-generated playlists and personalized podcast recommendations — Talk to Spotify represents a more natural, conversational interface for navigating the vast library of music and audio content available to subscribers.
