Anthropic’s Claude chatbot is a powerful productivity tool, but like any technology, it’s possible to overuse it. To help users build a healthier relationship with AI, Anthropic recently launched Reflect — a personal usage dashboard tucked inside Claude’s settings menu that blends the introspection of Spotify Wrapped with the guardrails of Apple’s Screen Time.
If you’ve been chatting with Claude daily and aren’t sure where the time goes, here’s a step-by-step guide to accessing the dashboard and setting meaningful limits.
Getting Started with Reflect
To generate your first Reflect report, head to claude.ai in your browser. Click your profile photo and name in the bottom-left corner, then navigate to Settings → Reflect.
Claude will take a moment to analyze your conversation history. By default, the report covers the last month of activity, but you can toggle the view to show the last three, six, or twelve months using the dropdown at the top of the page.
Once your report is ready, you’ll see a paragraph-length summary of your chat patterns. The “Time spent” tab is still labeled “coming soon” — Anthropic’s head of wellbeing policy, Ryn Linthicum, told Engadget the company didn’t have an internal system for measuring time on task when it began developing Reflect. For now, the focus is on qualitative insight rather than raw metrics.
Setting Break Reminders and Quiet Hours
The dashboard offers two practical tools to manage your Claude usage:
Break reminders let Claude nudge you after a set period of continuous use. You can configure these to fire every 15, 30, or 45 minutes, or after a couple of hours. When the reminder pops up, you’re free to dismiss it and continue working — the system trusts you to honor your own boundaries.
Quiet hours are more restrictive. You can block access to Claude entirely during specific time windows, and each day of the week can have its own schedule. For example, you might set a block from 5 PM to 8 PM on weekdays while leaving weekends more open.
Both settings can be adjusted at any time from the Time and focus section of Claude’s settings menu.
Smarter Usage with AI Fluency Tips
One of the most useful parts of the dashboard appears toward the bottom: the AI fluency section. Here, Claude analyzes your conversation patterns and offers personalized recommendations to help you work more efficiently.
If Claude notices you frequently re-paste the same context or ask similar questions, it might suggest using its Projects feature to group related prompts into reusable templates. Other recommendations include creating custom skills for recurring tasks — such as fact-checking workflows that automatically list sources, confidence levels, and caveats for each claim.
These suggestions are based on best practices Anthropic co-developed with academic researchers, and they genuinely help you accomplish more in fewer conversations.
The Bigger Picture
Reflect is part of a growing industry trend toward intentional AI usage. Rather than maximizing engagement metrics, Anthropic is betting that helping users spend less time in the chatbot — but using it more effectively — is the better long-term strategy.
As Linthicum put it: “We were really intentional about building the dashboard with an eye toward how we can upskill people’s usage of Claude, not in a way that encourages them to spend more time with it, but instead enables them to get more efficient at meeting their goals, and hopefully get off of Claude.”
Whether you’re a daily power user or a casual question-asker, Reflect is worth a few minutes of exploration. You might learn something about your own habits — and maybe even touch some grass in the process.
